We have already talked about the details on Disneyland’s PhotoPass packages. I also want to discuss PhotoPass at Disney World. The two parks have fairly different processes when it comes to PhotoPass. It is still free to get your photos taken at WDW and you may get a PhotoPass card but you can also link it to your MagicBand and it will upload directly to your My Disney Experience account. You are able to purchase photos individually or purchase the Memory Maker package. Let’s dive into the details.
PhotoPass is the service of the actual photographers and individual photos. Memory Maker is a package where you pay a set price that includes all of the photos taken on your trip both by photographers and ride photos. If you purchase Memory Maker at least 3 days prior to your trip you can save $30. It costs $169 versus $199 if you wait until you are at the parks. The photos are digital only so you will have to get prints on your own once you download the images. You must download the photos within 45 days or they will be deleted out of the account.
WDW’s PhotoPass service is a little less complicated than Disneyland’s. There aren’t as many options to choose from. I have used Memory Maker on my trips before and it led to great photos. I now have an annual pass that includes the photos. I think it is a great option for families and party’s if you are going on a longer trip and want to get great photos without worrying about finding strangers to take good pictures. The photographers will use your camera but the photos with their own will be more enthusiastic and can also include magic photos with character additions and props.
Memory Maker photos include all photos taken within 30 days. Do note that buying the early Memory Maker with the $30 savings will not include photos until 72 hours after the purchase. The Memory Maker is tied into everyone in your family and friends group so if your group splits up any photos taken will be linked and included.
It is important to keep in mind that there may be places you want photos that do not have photographers so it doesn’t hurt to have a camera, even if it is just your phone. It also makes more sense to purchase Memory Maker for longer trips because it allows more bangs for your buck.
At the end of the day purchasing Memory Maker isn’t for everyone. You have to look at the pros and cons and decide if it works for your family. I personally think it can be a great asset for special trips, but if you go to WDW frequently you may not need it all of the time. Have you used Memory Maker? What are your thoughts?
